The Farm: New plantings

This winter 2009/2010 we have started to plant many new varieties of apples on a very intensive scale, only 3 feet between the trees on a post and wire system, where each tree is attached to a bamboo cane and will eventually grow much taller than existing orchards. This is because we can achieve a larger yield per acre of good quality fruit and with more fruit, supply our customers all year round. New tunnels are being erected to increase our strawberry and raspberry yields, and our vegetable area has again been increased to add yet more vegetables and some more varieties of those we already have.

Chegworth Farm Shop has been doing really well, proving popular with its increasing following and the delivery service has done particularly well. We now deliver all that we sell and any goods over £15 are delivered free locally. The shop is open 7 days per week from 8 to 9 monday to friday, 8 to 8 on saturday and 9 to 6 on sunday.

Tried your apple cake for the first time – delicious, despite your saying it was in the oven too long this week.

I just read the article in The Guardian today. All I read looks excellent. When next I get to UK, I will look you up.
Montreal, Canada based but used to live in West Malling. Have you thought of expanding internationally?

    All the best, Jm
